Video: Assisted Technology
These days, technology is very important to everyone. It brings information to everyone around the world in a matter of seconds. Technology makes life easier for everyone but for those living a disabled life, today’s technology allows them the opportunity to become normal people. A video titled, “Enabling Dreams”, talks about how today’s technology helps people with disabilities. It was a very informative video.
The first part of the video, is about a girl, who as cerebral palsy. She was born with out the ability to control certain limbs, which means she was not able to do things like the rest of her classmates. She could not write or type out her school papers due to her disability, but lucky for her, someone introduced her to assisted technology. Therefore, instead of writing or typing out her school papers, she only had to speak the words and a program in her computer will type it out for her. Personally, I thought that the program she used was very cool. It is a very useful tool to use. It is something I would use because I hate typing.
The last part of the video was most interesting to me because it involved music. I am a musician as well and I cannot imagine terrible it would be to lose the ability to play music. There was a student in the video that loves music but has cerebral palsy. He love playing the tuba but was not able to push the keys or valves in order to make the right notes. He was able to only play certain notes and would wait for those notes to show up in a particular music so that he can participate with the rest of the band. Later on, a man created a device, which allocated him to press the right valves or keys to play all the whole music.
In conclusion, I think assisted technologies are very important for disabled people. People who feel that they are not capable of doing things don’t need to think that way anymore because these days, there has got to be some form of useful technology to assist with any form of disability. In this world, there is no end to the possibilities that technology can provide to help make the world an easier place to live.

Hi:
How do you think that you will incorporate/include students with disabilities in your class?
